Its good to be old!

Powerfeedback recently concluded an independent poll of employers throughout the United States to better understand their attitude towards older workers.

Of the 741 employers we talked to, 64.6% were working diligently to retain older workers and 53.2% said that they were designing programs to attract older workers to their ranks.

The top reasons offered for this strategy included-

  • Older works tend to have a greater appreciation for their job
  • These workers typically do not have child care issues
  • Senior workers have rushed to learn technology eliminating prior barriers to entry for themselves
  • The experience and learned skill sets that these seasoned people have cannot be underestimated nor easily replicated

Given that companies need every competitive advantage that they can get in our challenging economy, the findings did not surprise us, though the candor of many of the “C” level executives we conducted further in-depth interviews with was unexpected.

What is your company’s position on older workers? Please share your insights!
