Do you text or tweet after sex?

Do you grab your Blackberry, iPhone or Android device immediately following sex? If you say “no”, you may be in the minority!

We just concluded a wide ranging qualitative and quantitative research study that focused on everything from personal relationships to career objectives. Due to client confidentiality we are not able to release the results publicly, but, with client permission we are able to share with you a stunning (at least to us) revelation regarding sex. We asked 542 people between the ages of 25-50 what is the first thing that they do after the sex act is completed.

Women

  • 33% go to the bathroom (various reasons)
  • 29% roll over and go to sleep/rest
  • 16% get up and leave
  • 22% use their smartphone to check email, text message a friend, or use a social networking application

Men

  • 9% go to the bathroom (various reasons)
  • 49% roll over and go to sleep/rest
  • 22% get up and leave
  • 20% use their smartphone to check email, text message a friend, or use a social networking application

Of the respondents who picked the smartphone option, 71% reported being married and/or in a committed relationship, and the balance (29%) were presently single/unattached. Interestingly, regarding the 71% who reported “married and/or in a committed relationship”, 17% of those people said that they were more likely to utilize their mobile device after sexual relations with someone other than their spouse/significant other.

I can not imagine that the inventors of the smartphone envisioned this type of usage when they set forward with developing and deploying these wireless wonders!
