* 48.68% Yes
* 51.32% No

There were 611 responses to the survey, and the results were garnered within a 24-hour period. In addition to email databases, social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn were used to garner survey participants. An important side note to this report is how active these social networking sites have been during this crisis. I am seeing special pages set up where people can share their feelings, fears, and opinions on this topic.
Whether Swine Flu has landed in your state, or your particular area as of yet or not, now is the time to have a plan in place with your staff to deal with this should your workplace be impacted. Brian Wingfield of Forbes wrote a very interesting article regarding Pandemic Planning that is worth the read.
We are conducting a quick, 5 question survey regarding the global outbreak of “swine flu” and would appreciate your participation, as well as sharing the survey link with family, friends, and co-workers.
Thank you very much for your participation and assistance!
“General Motors Corp. is laying off 20% of its marketing and communications staff……”
Sales are down, so GM cuts marketing personnel? Assuming that they do not replace the in-house services with outside experts like Powerfeedback, their decision is very foolish. Now more than ever, don’t they need creative and targeted marketing campaigns?
I have also heard, though I don’t have confirmation as of yet that General Motors is also cutting market research. If true, another mistake, and I wonder why they don’t replace their behemoth market research firms with smaller, yet very capable and budget friendly companies?
Every President, Republican or Democrat, flies around the country on Air Force One and Marine One with barely a thought as to the impact on our carbon footprint, or the message that it sends regarding the call to conserve fuel and resources.
It is however very ironic that President Obama spent over 9,000 gallons of fuel on Earth Day to spread the message of conservation, and the need to seek out new forms of energy.
Listen, I get it; its really cool to have the President (Democrat or Republican) come to your city, but, given this President’s affection for YouTube, the Internet, Social Networking, an other online messaging vehicles, wouldn’t it have been more prudent on Earth Day to park the planes and helicopters and deliver the message in a more environmentally friendly manner?
There is much debate today as to whether you should cut your rates/prices during the current economic slowdown.
I have maintained that it is far smarter to offer more value and services if you want to maintain long-term viability for your business.
My feelings on this are further expressed in today’s Wall Street Journal; item number 5.
“Troubled by the possible shuttering of his hometown paper, Sen. John Kerry reached out to the Boston Globe on Tuesday, then called for Senate hearings to address the woes of the nation’s print media.”
I am absolutely floored by Senator John Kerry’s actions in this regard. I have written extensively about this in the past, so, I will limit my remarks here, and make some simple points. Newspapers are dying because-
- Internet
- Cable News
- Print Media is not timely
- Print Media is usually slanted left or right, and not independent
Translation? We all knew years ago that newspapers would face this fate, and to be clear, this is NOT due to the current economic conditions.
If Senator Kerry is so concerned about jobs, as I have also written about earlier, why isn’t he helping small businesses? He started to Shepard S. 2300 (The Small Business Contracting Revitalization Act of 2007) through the Senate, which, would have finally allowed small businesses to legitimately, and fairly, compete for Federal Government small business set-aside business contracts. Why did Senator Kerry allow this legislation die?
It is pretty clear that Senator Kerry is more interested in appeasing his supporter base versus actually pushing for programs that would actually help currently viable, and future relevant businesses and industries.

Yahoo announced some major layoffs today.
I just posted a piece on this for Examiner.com.
Please check it out!
I find the information interesting in this article, but, I do have a bone to pick.
There is a consistent trend in articles such as this. They highlight “C” level people who are actively engaged in using Twitter for their businesses. While this is admirable, is it still newsworthy?
What about small and mid size businesses who are using Twitter for the same purposes, as well as forging strategic partnerships, business development, and often sharing information that would not otherwise be widely available?
Given the current economic environment, isn’t more timely and worthwhile to feature firms like this? Haven’t we learned a lesson from firms like Yahoo?

“Senior White House adviser David Axelrod on Sunday suggested the “Tea Party” movement is an “unhealthy” reaction to the tough economic climate facing the country.”
Axelrod, and virtually everyone in else in Washington just don’t get it!
Yes, people are concerned about taxes, today and tomorrow, but, the root causation of the Tea Parties was far deeper.
People are not happy with the path that our country is heading down. This is not aimed at Democrats or Republicans independently, but BOTH SIDES EQUALLY!
In the surveys that we’ve conducted, it is clear that individuals, and most especially small businesses are disgusted, frustrated, and losing hope.
For those who wish to limit the role of the Tea Parties to taxes, they are very being shortsighted.
