Web searching killing the environment →
“Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate about the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea, according to new research.”
I just have to say it; some research is just dumb…..
Even with the clarification at the beginning of the article, perhaps Physicist Alex Wissner-Gross of Harvard University should ponder how much energy...

Politicians just dumb →
“Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman’s proposed $60 million mob museum downtown”
I admit it; With few exceptions, I am no fan of politicians. When you see comments such as above, it is not hard to understand my feelings.
I have long advocated the concept of successful and smart business people, especially small businesspersons, leading our nation and government.
Can you imagine how...
Inaugural hookers stay home →
“WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) — District police have placed signs along 5th and I Streets. They read, “Warning, Prostitution Free Zone.” Those who disobey could be fined 300 dollars, and even jailed.”
So let me get this straight. Someone in DC, most likely a politician, came up with the idea that hookers should not practice their trade during the inauguration. This is...

California's issues can come East if unchecked →
“years of rising taxes, dead-end schools, unchecked illegal immigration and clogged traffic have robbed the Golden State of its allure.”
If you go back in history and look at pictures of Presidents before they were elected, and then again around 45 days or so after inauguration, they all age dramatically.
My theory on this is that a wise old man comes out of the shadows of the...

Good news for Market Research →
“The marketing industry’s growing love affair with data and analytics is as passionate as ever, and the recession will doubtless drive more brand managers into the arms of the data wonks.”
At a time when many industries are struggling with their outlook for 2009, its great to see that Powerfeedback and other leaders in the market industry sector should have a very positive...

Chamber of Commerce half right →
“Based on the reports we have seen and the conversations we have had, the chamber is very encouraged by the direction the President-elect is taking with his recovery package,” he said. “This includes not only tax cuts for workers and businesses, but also his strong emphasis on infrastructure.”
I wrote a piece for the Examiner about tax cuts for business the other day,...

The Charlie Schulz Philosophy
The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip. You don’t have to actually answer the questions. Just read the straight through, and you’ll get the point.
Name the five wealthiest people in the world
Name the last five Heisman trophy winners
Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant
Name ten people who have won...

Ideas that Matter Now →
I have added my .02 to this Business Week article. Below is a snippet. Please read the entire piece to fully understand my position.
Personally I grow very weary of seeing statements like; “fresh insights, bold thinking and smart tactics.”

Support entrepreneurs →
“Atif Shamim, an electronics PhD student at Carleton University, has built a prototype that extends the battery life of portable gadgets such as the iPhone and BlackBerry, by getting rid of all the wires used to connect the electronic circuits with the antenna.”
I often write both here and in the Examiner why it is so crucial to support small businesses and entrepreneurs in general.

Market Research Scores →
Morehouse doesn’t trust anecdotal strategies. So, when he was first named president, he guided the organization in brand research to gather concrete information about what people thought about the team. You need that information to set an accurate and clear vision for your organization.
“We wanted to see what people thought our brand was in the marketplace,” he says. “We researched people within...

Is this survey valid? →
If a credit card company conducts a shopping survey, and the preponderance of the data is solicited from its own card members, and those same card members still shop, but don’t use that particular credit card to make their purchases, is the research statistically valid?
What if they paid with cash or check, or used a different branded credit card?
I am still looking into this, so I cannot...
